After reading the author's very good book on Pascal, I thought this one might be interesting and fun. It is neither. The blurbs on the back say it all: "The ideal book on philosophy--Plato; Not ideal, but practical--Aristotle; Phenomenal--Immanuel Kant; A lot of people like it so it must be good--John Stuart Mill; Every class should have it--Karl Marx; This book makes me sick, but so does everything else--Jean Paul Sartre." If all this makes you laugh, you'll love the rest; if not, not. One cute comment on Hegel: he was apparently only the second great philosopher since Socrates to be married, the other one being George Berkeley. If true, I guess this says a lot about both marriage and philosophers.

I really enjoyed this book. The brief summaries of philosophers are helpful. The writing is witty. I read it in one evening.
