Cypher The Mountain Giant Reviews

This first series is quite appropriate for younger children with plenty of illustrations. Every book features a problem for the local people which must be resolved by Tom and Elenna, with their trusty horse and wolf. Tom does have a sword but in this book he doesn't kill anything, putting the magic sword to good use in other ways.A mountain dwelling giant has been driven mad by the imposition of a blindfold by an evil wizard. The damage he is doing causes earthquakes and landslides. How many fantasy stories do you see using the landscape and natural disasters as a challenge? This is a great way for young readers to learn and they can relate the disasters to television news. Each of the stories is set in a different environment. They are all very exciting and encourage both helping others and thinking your way through a problem. The kids will love the good quality collector cards in the back of these books. If buying secondhand do try to get books with the cards. This is an unbiased review.

I read this book in one sip to take my mind from Thousand Orcs by RA Salvatore (which I am enjoying so much). This book was a little boring. Well I guess from now on, will be like this. First we are introduced to some poor characters which were attack insert name of the beast here , then they meet Tom and Elenna. Afterwards they do a chore or two for some small town which got themselves into trouble; and then go straight to save; not kill or harm; the beast while Tom do all the work and Elenna, that frail yound girl, gets into trouble, and Tom usually have to help her too. In the end the beast gives something to help Tom in the next book Quest and never to be used again. In the end the Magician comes and congratulates them and says off you go, you lazy youngsters, you've go more work to do, that us men cannot. That's it. If you change a word or two, the second and third book and I think the next few ones, will be like this. Oh well... This is what I get for reading childrens books.

To właśnie tam zamieszkuje kolejna z Bestii, którą zgodnie z legendą znaleźć można w miejscu zwanym Gniazdem Orłów. Mowa o Arccie, górskim olbrzymie. Zanim Malvel przejął nad nim kontrolę, dbał on o to, aby górskie miasteczka bez przeszkód otrzymywały zaopatrzenie. Obecnie jednak robi wszystko, aby utrudnić karawanom dotarcie z towarem do celu - zrzuca olbrzymie głazy, blokuje drogi, powołuje do życia błotne lawiny.

So the only reason that I found this book was because I am currently helping this charity called Seeing Ear by editing books for their online library.I would probably have never found this book without them, but I found it very good. It is a children's book and has lots of pictures/drawings throughout the book which would help a child understand the story. But it's a very interesting book, and at 18, I still found this book engaging and fun to read.If I can find the others I will actually read the first two in the series and then continue the series because I have grown to really love Elenna and Tom!! And Silver, the wolf!!

I think the book Cypher the Mountain Giant was a boring book. That book I recommended to elementary school. I didn’t really like it because it could have been more interesting. I could of like if it had more action. I think this book would be for people interested in fiction books. I would like if it was not much fantasy. It was not a horrible book or good book.

By Cyper the Mountain Giant, the Beast Quest series has developed a strict formula (though the first book varied slightly).Step One: During the prologue, a handful of brand-new characters are attacked by a Beast and narrowly survive.Step Two: Elenna and Tom reach the approximate area of the next Beast. Conveniently, they run into the survivors, who explain the hardships of the area and their encounter with the Beast.Step Three: Elenna and Tom start to turn around the lives of the unlucky locals, usually including the prologue's survivors; they'll likely have to deal with a quick crisis or two before they can set out to complete their main task. Why Elenna and Tom are the most competent two individuals in all of Avantia in spite of their pre-pubescent age, I couldn't tell you.Step Four: Elenna and Tom go to fight the Beast. Tom tends to do all of the work; Elenna either helps or is busy playing damsel in distress (and I really hope to see her get out of that rut in one of the upcoming books).Step Five: The Beast, now freed, gives Tom's shield a blessing of some kind, and the wizard Aduro shows up for pointless congratulations. The end.All in all, if you're looking for a series of short, formulaic fantasy novels to help ease a young child into the genre, the Beast Quest series isn't a bad place to start. I can't say I highly recommend it, but it should at least be entertaining to the target audience (RL3, around ages 5-8).

The third book in the "Beast Quest" series, in which Tom and Elenna head for the mountains to free Cypher, the giant, from Malvel's mental domination. This book, like the two before it, moves along at a breakneck pace, with little room for character development. Elenna in particular is slighted as "the sidekick," and she has little to do in this one other than trade quips and be imperiled. In each of the books there is a sequence where Tom demonstrates his supernatural abilities; in this book he manages to swim through a liquified mudslide and pull himself out onto a boulder one-handed, in addition to doing some amazingly deft dodging work to avoid Cypher's attacks when they finally face down the giant. Ordinarily I might roll my eyes or groan in exasperation at such a character's miraculous deeds - after all, isn't Tom the access character with whom the readers should identify? - but in this case, from the first book it has been established that Tom is super-human: better, stronger, faster than the rest of us. Keeping this in mind, I don't grumble about how "unrealistic" the fantasy action is; instead I read it like an Ancient Greek Myth akin to Hercules wrestling the Nemean Lion. Beast Quest is really sort of "The Young Adventures of Ajax" (or Perseus, or Achilles, or Odysseus, or another Greek Hero, take your pick), and as such I have been enjoying them.

Picked this up as something I could try reading with my kids. They loved it and honestly I had a hard time stopping at the end of a few of the chapters. It was 10 chapters and the action was consistant enough to keep a 6 and 8 year old interested. If your kids like fantasy adventure this would be great for them!

Read the Swedish Edition of the book.My seven year old thought it ought to be rated 4,5 star (and the half star was because he did not like that the prologue and the first chapter of the next book was in it).As an adult I thought it at times to boring and with strange choices of which details to describe. Ok as a childs book but gave nothing to me

in this beast quest Cypher the giant is threatening towns by giant rock slides and traping people and things in caves. in the beginning of the story Tom and Elenna go to seek out the source of the mud slides and so they cross the path of a abandoned city and they here yelling and wile silver is growling and slowly walking the other why they go investigate the noise. when they get to the source of the noise the figure out that the noise is some people stealing things from houses. so Tom got ready to fight by pulling out his sord and then silver comes and scares away the thiefs. but also scared the mare. and the mare tryes to get on silvers good side another rock slide comes and traps the three guys that stole the thing. tom saves the guys that were traped and they tell Tom where to find Cypher.

My nine year old nephew gave me this one to read since he loved it so much. It is a good children's book and a fun and easy read. I liked the whole concept of the story, monsters that were under an evil curse and had to be rescued. I have to agree with other reviews that this book does not have a strong female character, just a clichee like girl that always gets in trouble. But the main character Tom is really lovely.

I purchased these books for my grandson and he and his friends enjoy reading them a lot. Several of the boys have purchased the book and pass them around to each other, which is a true indication that they are enjoyed by the young reader. This is a great book for young boys 9-11 and it also helps them meet their school reading goals.

I have NEVER liked these kind of books, but since J was interested in this one I read it with him. For a book about mystical places and make believe giants I was impressed and actually enjoyed reading it. We'll be reading more in this series.

Another cute story in the series. Not much to say about this one - the story follows the similar action/story/action/story chapter break-up from the other 2 books. I presume the next books will be similar. Great for the target age though.

The Beast Quest Series is interesting, but it is repetitive and after a few books you sort of know what's going to happen next. I find the book very simple and a easy reader for kids. I think it is very descriptive but I will only give it a 3.
