cadillac payback Reviews
My star rating for CADILLAC PAYBACK is: 4 out of 5 stars. My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after readingCopy of ‘CADILLAC PAYBACK' by AJ Elmore(via:BooksMoviesFandoms.wordpress.com): This is the debut novel for new Indie-author A. J. Elmore and the book is titled “Cadillac Payback.” This novel is a romantic-suspense story with a blend of violence, suspense, sexual moments as well as a tinge of romance. Cadillac Payback is written from four main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views), Maria, Joshua, Frederick “Freddy”, and Isaiah “Izzy.”The story begins right at the turning point that effects every main character’s life in one way or another. When Charlie, the leader they followed, respected, learned from and loved- is murdered, their world tailspins into a cyclone of seeking revenge while also feeling left with muddled emotions. Charlie’s sister, Maria, has taken on the reigns as the one who will lead the fight. She’s earned her next-in-line position but with revenge as her main focus, she may be leading their closest, most-trusted allies into something that can quickly go terribly wrong. To top it off, Maria is not afraid of letting those allies, Joshua, Frederick and Isaiah, know just how much they each mean to her in their own way and to their alliance.Joshua is the pretty-boy, who was Charlie’s best friend, has always had strong feelings for Maria, and who always seems to feel like he has to prove himself to the others who feel he doesn’t belong in this lifestyle. Isaiah had the longest friendship and alliance in the seedy and violent life with Charlie. Since he’s a little more than a few years older than the rest, his opinion and view is respected because he’s the one who knew Charlie’s views in the dark lifestyle the best. Then, you have Frederick. His past is questionable because he doesn’t talk much about it. What Maria and the others know is that he used to run with bad people, learned from them but escaped their clutch when things went terribly wrong. He’s the most scarred, violent and the rage in him always seems to be right beneath the surface, waiting to come out. Frederick “Freddy” has always had some kind of strong connection with Maria but he had never perused it because of Charlie. Besides, his focus has always been handling the tough lifestyle they live with drugs, enemies, guns and violence. The drug organization who is also their biggest enemy, The Reapers, have been fighting to come back up and isn’t afraid to destroy and kill anyone in their path. Maria’s grandmother is a whole different issue. She runs her own illegal businesses and plays everyone in her life in whatever way she must to keep her control and the fear in the hearts of anyone in their gritty world. Maria isn’t afraid to express herself or her sexual prowess as well as her strength and leadership in the dark illegal life she leads.Maria drives her brother Charlie’s old Cadillac around as she plans and heads down the path of revenge and payback to those responsible for her brother’s death. Will Maria’s blind range cost her more than she expected? Will Joshua, Frederick, or Isaiah follow Maria or will they turn their back on her vengeful plan? Who is truly responsible for the events that led to Charlie’s death? And who really holds the strongest bond with Maria? This novel was definitely gritty, dark, full of raw emotion and tons of sexual drive. When violence is around, it always seems to heighten the need to bring on spur-of-the-moment sexual gratification and this story definitely delivers there. The storyline was at times very exciting and the build-up was there but I got a little anxious to see if revenge was served. This doesn’t happen until the last couple of chapters in the book finally. The ending leaves you knowing how things ended as far as Maria’s plans go but her strong connections with the male characters’ were all left pretty open-ended. Besides that, everything else played out well and enjoyably. Not a bad gritty story at all! Check it out if this sounds like something you’d find worth reading. My Star Rating for CADILLAC PAYBACK is: 4 out of 5 stars. :) Visit my Blog and see Memorable quotes and character photos of how I imagined them while reading CADILLAC PAYBACK. This is not your usual story. If you want out of the box, something that's both hot and cold, bloody and wrong, beautifully written but mostly unresolved, then you should let Cadillac Payback take you for a ride.Again, this is a very unusual story. It's set in a crime world, all about revenge, and about a woman's complicated relationships to her three "knights", and what motivates each of those three very different men to stay by her side. Each has something they hide from the others, a mask they show the harsh world they live in. You get a glimpse behind to what they are really thinking and feeling, and how they regard the others. But she has a mask, too. And because Joshua, Isaiah, and Frederick are so different, they each see through that mask to a different part of her, and love her for different reasons, and each in their own way. In return, Maria needs all three of them, both professionally and personally.Joshua is the one who had it easiest, I dare say, thus he's the one who's always being nagged for being too kind. He sees the good in people, that's why he's the diplomat, yet his easy manner is also a mask, and there's quite more to him than the others think, but Marie knows. His general goodness and ability to still dream of better things in their dark world is also why Maria needs him in her life. He keeps her from being consumed by her own darkness, because a part of her wants to be worthy of his good heart, and his pure love.Isaiah is the brains, the teacher, and the oldest of the three. Maria doesn't look up to him, but is intruiged by him. His mask is certainly the hardest to crack, and because she's not intimidated by his demeanor, but tries to read him and get him to come out of his shell and tell her business, she turns him on against his better judgement. Marie values his calculating mind, but he's also her ultimate test of power. If she is brave and smart enough to handle him, she can handle anyone.Frederick is Maria's bodyguard, and the most broken of the lot. Maria and him see eye to eye when it comes to bloody vengeance, which makes him her executioner, the hand who willingly does all her dirty work. He doesn't judge her like the others, he doesn't question her orders. Furthermore, they are closer connected to one another, not so much via Charlie, which makes Freddy the most loyal to her. He's grateful to her for seeing him for his present, not his past, and loves her for it, although he knows they can never be equals. But this isn't a love story, far from it. Maria isn't chosing one of them to be her first knight in the end, no. Her mind's on vengeance first, business second. There is no room for romance right now, yet she's using each of them in turn as a stress relief. I understood Freddy's chavalier attitude about it, Joshua's determination to belong, but Izzy certainly didn't have to come through. Maria couldn't afford losing either of them, yet she risked it anyway, and a not insignificant part of her didn't even care. Generally, I think she was a good mix off all four males, her brother and those three, but she had one mayor fault: a damn-the-consequences attitude. That she's not the type to idle, not afraid to act, makes her a good mob leader, because it inspires fear in others, but she's too impulsive for her own good. She was really lucky that all her boys stood with her, and she certainly could do with some patience so she doesn't fidget under pressure. Then she would be just as scary as her Abuela. In addition to the unique concept and set of characters, I really admired the writing style. It's rare you find a story that lets you really feel the scenery, but damn did I feel the pressing swamp heat -- and not just because I'm currently getting baked by the summer sun, too. That in combination with emotions running high, and a good portion of it between the lines, makes this story a fine piece of art.Area Scan: Idea: 5/5 -- Style/Vocab: 5/5 -- Plot: 4/5 -- Heroine: 4/5 -- Heroes: 5/5 -- Hearts: 4/5 -- Tears: 3.5/5 -- Heat: 3.5/5 -- Thrills: 4/5 -- Laughs: 3/5Overall: 4.5/5
Review originally posted on my blog I Heart Fictional PeopleINITIAL THOUGHTSThe title is awesome! It immediately got my attention, and I had to know more about it. Plus, the cover is amazing! It has this mysterious yet ominous look, and I love it! So, of course, I just HAD to read it.WHAT I LIKEDIt was pretty suspenseful! I found myself on the edge of my seat quite a few times throughout the book. It wasn’t predictable, and I liked being surprised at every turn. The characters were great! I mean, these are some badass people we’re dealing with, and I loved it. Maria isn’t a woman you want to mess with. Killing her brother was the wrong thing to do. And these guys by her side will do anything for her, which made it that much more enjoyable. The writing was really good! This is a new author, so I didn’t know what to expect, but I really liked the writing. Not many authors can pull off violence, action, drama, tragedy, and sex and make it all work. Awesome.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKEThe four different points of view was a little confusing at times. There were actually a few times where I had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to see whose viewpoint I was reading in, especially when it was one of the guys. Some of what the three guys said just sounded similar, so it could’ve been any of them, which is why it was difficult to follow sometimes. The love triangle…or I should say love square. Don’t expect much romance here. It was kind of awkward, to be honest. I don’t want to go into details and give anything away, but she has these three guys into her, and she kind of takes advantage of that. It actually made me dislike her a lot. She ended up seeming a bit slutty. It also felt like we just came into the middle of a story, which sometimes works, but I felt like we were missing critical background information. And, the ending seemed to come out of nowhere. I wanted more. It left a lot of questions unanswered. I hope there is a sequel.OVERALL THOUGHTSI just have mixed feelings. I really did enjoy it, but there were just a few issues I had with it, so I decided to go right smack dab in the middle and give it 3 hearts. BUT, don’t let what I didn’t like discourage you from reading it. I’ve seen 5-star reviews, so maybe it was just me. Plus, it was one of those books that I couldn’t put down. I had to know what happened! Definitely check it out!*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Cadillac Payback by Aj Elmore is her debut novel and it is a dark and twisted doozy! It is told from four POV's (Joshua, Isaiah, Frederick, and Maria) and it works. If you like dark and dangerous this is definitely the book for you. It is about a crime family whose leader, Charlie, is murdered. Next in line to take over the family "business" is his sister, Maria. The danger escalates rapidly when Maria cannot focus on anything besides revenge. She takes over driving Charlie's Cadillac around town while searching for revenge, hence the title, Cadillac Payback. While this ends with success of sorts for Maria, it left me feeling a little unsettled. It's a hard and cold life being leader of a crime family and I will say, if you like fluffy stories with happy endings and kind people, this is probably not for you. If you like you stories gritty, dirty and slightly painful... then one-click this baby.I'm intrigued by this authors style and will definitely be on the lookout from more her in the future.
Cadillac Payback is a twisted tale of murder, revenge, suspense, romance, family loyalty topped up some thrills and chills. When Charlie, the main leader of all of the characters, is murdered everyone’s life is put in a tail spin. Charlie was their world, their life, their fearless and respected leader. His sister Maria is next in line to lead but she is more concerned with seeking out and gaining her revenge on those who murdered her brother. The title comes from the fact that Maria starts driving her brother’s Cadillac around looking for payback after the murder and it is fitting. The whole family is into illegal dealings which makes for an interesting storyline as well as moments that keep you on the edge of your seat as you follow Maria down her path of revenge.I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review. Wow! Just Wow! This was much more than a love triangle. Maria is a wolf in sheeps clothing, and the wolf is out to play after the death of her brother. This woman is the picture of a woman scorned, and let's just say that I would not like to tussle with her. This story takes you into the dark and dangerous world of drug and money. Readers will get caught up in this life of living by the minute, and anxiously await just where we are being taken. More importantly, in a world with Isaac, Joshua, Frederick it will also beg the question with whom will we find ourselves in the end, or if anyone will come out unscathed. The suspense is high, and the darkness is ever growing as the story builds. This is a fresh new twist of a story, and quite good for entertainment. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer Jax~
Paperback edition from Amazon.frAn excellent plot and so well written. The story written in first-person POV of four different characters was interesting. Difficult, I know, but I would, however, like to have seen a little more variation in style of narrative from one character to another. Also, I thought the climax of the story felt a little rushed. The writer seems more at home with analysis of what motivates the characters than the action. Getting so near to the end of the book, I began to think there must be a sequel somewhere. But other than these minor quibbles, I have no hesitation in giving it 5 stars and would heartily recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good yarn.Rob...
