Turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing, corn--Thanksgiving is a holiday hungry tummies look forward to, and this book gives kids (and parents) a chance to stop and learn what this food-filled holiday is all about.Like all books in this series, it starts with a little boy writing a letter to Mrs. Turkey. It's a cute letter, which will make readers smile. From here, the book slides into the history of Thanksgiving, starting all the way across the ocean in Europe. My son was happy to find several names and places mentioned that he'd already heard about in school, and fell into a conversation concerning the holiday and all it's aspects. In other words, not only were my kids intrigued by the history but were ready to learn more. The illustrations in this are colorful and well done. They help bring the story of the pilgrims to life and let even the youngest listeners follow along.I especially appreciate the writing in these, just right for the intended age group. It's never dry despite the names, places and dates, and has moments with a bit of humor, which made me smile. The Christian aspect on Thanksgiving falls nicely into place, especially since the pilgrims made their journey due to religious reasons. The entire journey and move isn't presented with exaggerated happiness, but rather states the troubles and dangers clearly without ever becoming graphic.Summed up, this is a delightful book, perfect for this time of year and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. And I really recommend it for families who'd like their kids to get better acquainted with the story behind this important holiday.I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is such an adorable children's book all about Thanksgiving. It's written as a letter from a small child to Mrs. Turkey and he tells her all about what Thanksgiving is really all about. The story of the pilgrims is shared and, as many times as I've heard the story, I actually learned some new things! Mrs. Turkey is told how Thanksgiving is not about her, although she's very delicious, but about being thankful for the blessings we have. As with the author's other books, the focus is on faith in Jesus. She shares how the pilgrims came to America so they could worship God freely and then at the end, she shares the gospel message from a child-like level. I really like this because the book just naturally leads up to this message. I also love the illustrations in this book. Illustrations are very important in children's books because it will hold the child's attention and give them something to look at as you read to them. It just makes the book more enjoyable! This would be a wonderful book to have for your Thanksgiving! It would make a great addition to your day to sit and read this with your little ones (or even your older ones!). I really like this book and highly recommend it! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.*This book was provided to me for my honest review by the author.

It’s Not About You, Mrs. Turkey: A Love Letter About the True Meaning of Thanksgiving by Soraya Diase Coffelt is a charming children’s story about the true meaning of Thanksgiving. The book includes cute illustrations by Tea Soraya. All proceeds from the book sales go to the As the Stars of the Sky Foundation, which promotes literacy.Written from a child’s perspective, It’s Not About You, Mrs. Turkey tells the story of how the Pilgrims traveled to the New World and met the Wampanoag Indians. The book includes key facts and information about the first Thanksgiving, and it serves as a good history lesson for young children. Most importantly, Coffelt reminds children that Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks to God. I like how the book ends with a prayer about letting Jesus into your heart. It is a great story to read with your kids at Thanksgiving time!*I received this book for review*

A fun but educational historical lesson on the true meaning of Thanksgiving that's not just designed for children but is told by a child, which is what makes Ms Coffelt's book unique. The book is full of facts but will not overwhelm children. The colorful illustration really enhances the book. Definitely encourage parents to add this book to their child's library as it offer a great teaching and it infuses Christian principles. It’s Not About You Mr. Turkey is a part of The Love Letters Book Series and I was provided a copy of the book by the author in exchange for my honest review.
