He must avoid anything that can cause him to have a flare-up of his condition. The only place his parents let him go is school, where Charlie is one of the Sicko Squad, a group of chronically sick kids often bullied by other students. After Charlie starts high school, his illness worsens, and he discovers the true nature of his illness-- not the auto-immune condition his parents led him to believe he had, but something much more startling.Charlie is becoming a vampire....

Plague houseThis was a very good story although in the beginning I was wondering if this was a vampire story. it was but sure was different than I expected. This is good for someone who likes vampire stories with a twist. slow to start but worth reading . I really liked the ending .

Could use another round of editing to clean up the typos and whatnot, but overall the story was fun to read. Despite the fact that I typically hate vampires, this story was tolerable in terms of the vampires. They aren't the stereotypical vampires, and our lead guy doesn't consider sucking blood to be sexy or anything. In fact, he hates that he is a vampire! How often do you come across that?!? Pretty unique take on the vampire world.

On a bleak New England farm, a taciturn young man has resigned himself to a life of grim endurance. Bound by circumstance to a woman he cannot love, Ethan Frome is haunted by a past of lost possibilities until his wife's orphaned cousin, Mattie Silver, arrives and he is tempted to make one final, desperate effort to escape his fate. In language that is spare, passionate, a ...more

Plague House is not a typical coming-of-age tale. It's not a boy's journey to becoming a man; it's a boy's journey to becoming a vampire.Charlie is a fifteen-year-old boy who has been sick most of his life--or so he's been told. He starts out the book as a sickly, weak, smothered-by-his-mother boy and ends it as a powerful vampire. The book is about his journey from one to the other. He goes through all the same things as any adolescent--bad school cafeteria food, a mean gym teacher, annoying parents, finding out his friend Angela wants to be his girlfriend, and experiencing the changes his body is going through, except all this is complicated by the added pressure of learning he is a vampire.I enjoyed the book. Charlie is a good kid. He's funny and cares about people. Going through the vampire transition with his is interesting as he finds out and explores all the new things he can do. Angela is a relatable character as the girl who knows she loves the boy before the boy even has a clue what is going on. Charlie's "doctor" was the most interesting character to me as we discover who he really is and interacts with Charlie.I didn't find the book to be slow as others have said, but there are a lot of typos and other proofing errors that detracted from the enjoyment of the book. Still, I recommend it because the story is good, the characters are sympathetic and likeable, and Mr. Fogg is very intriguing.

1.5 stars, but I can't bring myself to round it up to 2 stars.Unfortunately I have to admit that I was super disappointed by the book. I was still bored by the time I had finished 80% of the book. I think the book could have had potential, but it was executed very poorly. I found the main character, Charlie, to be very bland. Personally, I think Angie is the only person in the book who had somewhat good character development. All in all, the story didn't even seem to go anywhere. I'm usually pretty determined to finish a book once I start it, but there were a few times when I thought about putting it down but I decided to push myself through it. Besides the story line, the grammatical errors and spelling errors were ridiculous. I'm usually not picky about those types of things, because I'm not an English major and I don't catch things like that. So if I was bothered by some spelling errors, that's obviously a sign that there were quite a bit.

WOW...... this book moves sooo s-l-o-w, everytime I just wanted to set the book down and move onto another there was something that kept me reading. Then FINALLY at around 80 percent,, dang the book started getting good! Finally the author was letting the characters develop and grow and do more. I was actually enjoying the last 20 percent of this book. Then " bam" .. suddenly Im reading about fairies, trolls, super vampires, and I just felt myself deflate. If I wanted True Blood, I would have picked up that author's books and read that series. So disappointed :-(

This was unique and different. I really enjoyed the characters and the story kept me guessing. Although I felt like that there were a few weak points in the middle plotwise I really enjoyed this and would like to read a continuation.

It was alright. So slow but you care about the characters. I wish you well on your travels Charlie. I wish the story was more about Angie.

The best young adult vampire book I've read lately. It's well-written, original, fresh, different. If you like this genre, I strongly recommend you check out a sample of this book.
