Probably more enjoyable if you already have a firm hold on Scottish history, as the trip is geographical rather than chronological, so the story of each castle jumps around in time. However, there was enough regional consistency (oh, those guys again!) that I could mostly follow it.The castles were excellent. I appreciated the angle of following after the 19th-century gentleman who drew lovely illustrations of ships and boats various castles (and ships and boats!), then accompanying them with a brief historical and architectural explanation, along with other historical sketches and modern pictures.Good book if you're planning a trip.
