I've come to the conclusion that one of the reasons why I enjoy Josie Belle's Good Buy Girls mysteries so much is that, by reading them, I experience something I've never had: the close friendship and emotional support of a group of women. These books almost make me want to start wearing nail polish and looking for bargains on shoes. Almost. (Sorry, Jenn, but I never was and never will be a girly girl.) This time around, Maggie and her friends are still dealing with the dangerous diva, Summer Phillips, but the emphasis is less on bargains and cat fights, and more on family, relationships, and a first-rate mystery. Another thing that I love about this series is that no character is really left behind. When a long-married couple splits in one book, they don't disappear; we get to see how they deal with living apart. When these amateur sleuths help a dead woman's daughter, the next book shows us how she is coping-- and how she is able to move with her life. This is definitely a series about family and about friends, and while a killer is being hunted, Buried in Bargains really delivers. A word of warning: when reading about the fancy dress Christmas ball, please have tissues on hand. You will need them. It's one of the very best cry-for-happy scenes I've read in a long, long time. I also have to admit that finally getting a chance to see Maggie's daughter was a bonus-- as well as watching further progress in the relationship between Maggie and Sheriff Sam Collins. If you love feeling invested in the crime fiction you read, get hold of the Good Buy Girls series. The whodunit aspects are good, and the cast of characters is so strong that you'll wish you could move to St. Stanley, Virginia, to become a part of such a loving, supportive group. Buried in Bargains is the best of the bunch so far. It can be read as a standalone since the author does provide enough backstory for you to get a feel for the characters, but I'd advise that you read 'em all. Why deny yourself the pleasure? Bring on the next one-- I have my coupons ready!

Josie Bell is the pseudonym of Jenn McKinlay, author of the Cupcake Mysteries. Under this name, she writes the Good Buy Girls series about four friends always looking for a good deal when out shopping. I like this series well enough. The characters are likeable and easy to keep track of. I wish the theme of bargain shopping was a little more prevalent in the books though. It seems that Maggie and her friends, especially in this book, spend a lot less time shopping and a lot more time sleuthing. I think a good cozy should have a mixture of both the theme and the sleuthing. That being said, this one was a little predictable. I knew who the killer was way before we ever found out as readers and I almost never do. I know a lot of readers can figure it out but I feel like if you do, you're probably guessing. This one was pretty obvious. I love Jenn McKinlay's other 2 series, the Cupcake Mysteries and the Library Lovers series so I definitely want to keep reading this one. However, this series isn't as strong as the other 2 but it is interesting enough to keep reading.

Grrr disappointing, so skimmed through to the end, which was no surprise. Unreal how many times the characters names are mentioned in full and their backstory, every few paragraphs. Between the cop divulging case information to civilians and smooching everywhere, I could not take it! As if people would be privy to confidential crime reports, and allowed into hospital ICU rooms.

Buried In Bargains is the third book in the A Good Buy Girls Mystery series. I think it is the best yet.The holidays are getting near and things are busy for Maggie at home and at her shop, My Sister's Closet.Everyone is also busy getting ready for the Holiday Ball to held at Bianca's fashionable home. Joanne, one of the Good Buy Girls, is in the early term of her pregnancy and is feeling jealous of the new girl that her husband Michael has hired at their deli. When Maggie overhears a private conversation between Michael and the girl, Maggie begins to wonder if something is going on. The next day Maggie goes to the deli to order additional food for holidays and finds the young lady has been strangled and Michael lying in a pool of blood from a head injury. So it's time for the Good Buy Girls to put their heads together and to make sure the police don't continue to look at Joanne and Michael as the murderer. All the character we have learned to love and hate are back. Summer is back to reek havoc on Maggie's sanity. Also Britney's obnoxious self is back. Also Laura, Maggie's daughter, is home from school and is a joy for Maggie to have help out at the shop.Oh, yes, and Maggie has seemed to have made a decision of who the love of her life will be.Definitely looking forward to this next book.

Buried in Bargains is the third installment in cozy mystery series about a group of four good friends who bond over their love of bargain shopping. Maggie Gerber is the main character and she is a curious widow with a grown daughter and a new relationship with her high school boyfriend. Sam has recently returned to town after 20 years away and is the sheriff. I liked the first two books in the series more than I liked this one, but it could have just been the subject matter (young woman found murdered). I'm not sure, but I do really like the characters and I love the way the author moves the relationship between Sam and Maggie along at the speed it would happen in real life.

I liked this one. I'm glad the love triangle is over - I hate when they get dragged out, especially when it's obvious who the MC should be with, as was the case here. I thought if was fairly obvious who the murderer was, but I can see why the characters had a hard time figuring it out. My only complaint is the fact the characters used last names when talking about other people far too frequently. When speaking to a close friend about another close friend's husband, it's extremely impractical to refer to the husband by both his first and last name, especially as far in as chapter 18 when we know who everybody is. That sort of thing drives me crazy in a book.

Buried In Bargains by Josie Belle has twists and charm, romance and mystery, and Best of all Christmas. I didn't know who-done-it until the main character, Maggie Gerber figured it out. There is also a romance brewing between Maggie, the resale shop owner (sleuth), and the local sheriff, Sam. And they are both baby boomers. I love that. There's a great bonus as well, in the back of the book are money saving holiday tips and a recipe for Maggie's To-Go-Gift, her Hot Chocolate for two. This is a perfect Holiday read if you like mysteries or romances or both. It also will make a great holiday gift.

Another great addition to this well-written series by Josie Belle, aka Jenn McKinlay. several of the scenes were very poignantly written and brought tears to my eyes. I really enjoy this series and it has a different feel from Jenn's other series. I also enjoyed the comedic scenes provided by Summer. If you want a great Cozy to read for the holidays, then this book is perfect!! I can't wait for the next one!

Loved it! I'm really enjoying this series though I feel like I missed something by not reading the second book before this one. Won't be a problem much longer though as I'm going to get it and read them again in order :D

Not much action or adventure, and really very VERY little to do with Christmas. I think it was mentioned once or twice that someone was shopping for wrapping paper and that was pretty much the extent of the Christmas theme, which was disappointing. Still, it was an enjoyable enough read.

Quick easy read. The characters relationships progressed nicely and was the highlight of the book. The murderer was easy to pick, motive was easy too.

#3 in the Good Buy Girls mystery series. Maggie Gerber is the pivotal GBG, 4 women who have a passion for bargains. Bianca Madison (A Deal To Die For (2012)) decides to continue the tradition of her mother and host a holiday ball. Maggie has all of the late Vera Madison's balls on consignment in her thrift shop. GBG Joanna is pregnant and jealous of the young lady her husband has hired for their deli. The GBGs and Maggie's family are attractive characters, but I felt that the obligatory victim and villain were rather obvious. Worth reading for cozy fans, who will enjoy the continuation of Maggie's romantic life.Good Buy Girls mystery - Maggie Gerber and the Good Buy Girls, are gearing up for their first big holiday thrift shop sale. But Joanne Claramotta, pregnant with her first child--is acting less than festive. It could be hormones. Or it could be Diane Jenkins, the young knockout her husband, Michael, hired as his new deli assistant. Calming Joanne's nerves proves impossible when Maggie finds Michael unconscious on his deli floor--and with Diane next to him, strangled to death. Then Maggie discovers something even more disturbing. There's no record of Diane having been hired. In fact, she has no history at all.

The Good Buy Girls are back in the third installment of the series, Buried in Bargains. Author Josie Belle (aka. Jenn McKinlay) has created a series that is refreshing in the cozy sub-genre. It isn't a culinary mystery series this time, but a shopping series. In this economy who doesn't need tips on finding a good bargain? Belle enchants readers with the cozy town of St. Stanley and the ladies of the Good Buy Girls group. Readers will be scratching their heads with this mystery. Who is she and where did she come from? A great addition to the series!First of all Jenn McKinlay has a lot of irons in the fire. She is the author of not one, but five different cozy mystery series'. Now that's impressive. As Josie Belle, McKinlay writes about one of most women's favorite pass times, shopping. I loved the whole theme of the series and Buried in Bargains is set during the Christmas season, when bargains really matter. So I thought that was a great plot point. I liked the fact that the author also put that great hot chocolate in a jar gift in the back of the book as well. Cute and a lot of fun to make and give as a gift, and quite economical too boot. When one of the Good Buy Girls isn't in a festive mood. Everyone believes it's hormones, but more than likely it's the sexy new assistant her husband has hired to work at their family deli. At first that looked like a pretty cut and dried plot. The wife gets framed for either the murder of the husband or the assistant. Well it turns out it was the assistant, but that's just the beginning of this story. The assistant wasn't really an assistant. In fact she doesn't really exist, at least as far as anyone can figure out. She has no past, but she is dead. I liked the whole plot there were several interesting aspects to it. The wife being pregnant. How the girl was associated with the husband. Who was she and where did she come from? It will definitely keep you guessing.Maggie once again steals the show. She is a wonderful amateur sleuth. She has that subtle charm that helps her get information out of people with ease. She has ins with the local police as she once dated the Sheriff in high school. But most importantly she has good friends and townspeople to back her up. I love her store, My Sister's Closet and the ideas she has for selling her gently used clothing. I liked the hunt for gift wrap and the jovial friendship that is apparent with the Good Buy Girls. There is a lot to love about Maggie and I think readers will find her captivating and very easy to identify with.I loved the growing attraction between Maggie and the Sheriff and how Belle is letting it work itself out as the series goes along. It's not easy to be an amateur sleuth when you love interest is the head of the police department. I fear there will be struggles a head for these two, but the beginnings of their relationship is fun to read and anticipate. Readers get a good dose of romance, a well thought out mystery and a great theme with Buried in Bargains. I am looking forward to seeing what the Good Buy Girls get into next. The preview in the back of this book for the next book in the series, was excellent. It's got my curiosity up, don't forget to check it out when you finish the book.

This is a fun cozy mystery. In a small town in Virginia, there are women who are good friends and share their lives with one another. They also share a desire to find bargains and save money. They are the Good Buy Girls.Maggie owns a consignment store called My Sister's Closet. It is near the holidays and her business is booming with dresses being bought for a gala holiday ball. While all this is going on, there are also the normal life things happening. Joanne is pregnant with her first child and she and her husband, Michael are ecstatic. Ginger and her family are doing well. Claire has been asked out by Pete, a man she finds very attractive. Laura, Maggie's daughter is home from college and helping in the store. There is a murder and an assault. It appears that there is no logical reason for either. The young murder victim was a friend of Laura's and she had worked in the deli with Joanne's husband. This is a small town and everyone is familiar with one another. Everyone cares for one another and everyone wants to protect one another. They share history and affection.I really enjoyed this book. The feeling of community and friendship is very strong. Learning about the lives of the characters is of primary importance. The mystery was a good one, but I had figured out the bad person pretty early in the story.Ms Belle is a very talented author who develops a plot which is well planned and develops characters who are well rounded human beings.I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good cozy mystery. And if you like a mystery that is not too bloody, but exciting, then this is a book you will love. For full disclosure, this is a book I won in a contest. The only request was that if I were to review the book, it be a fair review.

But of course The Good Buy Girl's close rank and once again are able to outshop her!Another awesome read by Josie Belle! Love the characters in this series and the twist at the end is great. “Buried in Bargains” by Josie BelleWhat comes to mind when you hear the phrase ‘Good Buy Girls’ (GBG)? If you say a bunch of women who like smart finds, then you guessed it. But second hand shops, stationary stores, delis, and accounting are not all Maggie, Joanne, Claire, and Ginger are up to.Much to the dismay of Sheriff Sam Collins—an ex-boyfriend of Maggie’s from her younger years—Maggie and her entourage insist on getting involved when a young girl is murdered. Joanne’s husband Michael is very protective of Diane Jenkins, his new hire at the deli, and the GBG girls can’t figure out why. Until plots, schemes, and stalkers make an appearance after Diane is murdered and Michael is knocked out and left for dead in his deli.Maggie and Sam are lighting up their old flame again, but Maggie’s insistence in coming to the aid of her friend and getting in the way may be the one thing that may put that flame out again. But she can’t help herself when Michael becomes a suspect in Diane’s murder. This is a tale of suspicions, Maggie’s amateurish sleuth, off-the-wall ideas, and mayhem, and it’s a load of fun! Maggie and the Good Buy Girls have trouble knocking on their doors. It is bad enough that Summer is stirring the pot, but when Joanne's husband is found by Maggie on the deli floor, unconscious in a pool of blood, the trouble really begins. Joanne is pregnant and hormonal. Michael, her husband, has hired a new, younger, female deli worker and guess what? He did not even tell Joanne about it.Guess who Michael was next to when Maggie found him? Yep, that's right. Right next to Diane, the new deli worker, who is not only younger, but now strangled to death. Can you say drama? So, you have a dead body, that no one knows and, get this, no one can find any information on her. NONE! Since Michael hired her, you would think that he would know something about her, but who can ask him? He is in the hospital in a coma! So, the girls rally around Joanne and try and keep her calm, while Maggie tries to find out who strangled Diane. She has to. Her new boyfriend, Sam the sheriff, thinks that Michael is guilty. No one messes with a Good Buy Girl or their family! Maggie knows Michael did not do it, but now she has to prove it to Sam.

It's getting close to Christmas time and the Good Buy Girls are looking for bargains. When the town finds out that a fancy ball is going to happen, the residents begin to shop for formal wear. Not everyone is happy, though. Joanne is concerned that her husband Michael might be having an affair with the new hire Diane- a new girl in town who Maggie's daughter, Laura, has become fast friends with. Maggie feels that Joanne has nothing to worry about, but overhears a convo that troubles her... and then one day finds Michael and Diane together at the shop- Michael, unconscious and Diane... dead. Did Michael kill Diane? Or maybe Joanne? Is there more to this story? How will Sam handle Maggie poking her nose in police business? Silence her with a kiss, perhaps? If you enjoy light cozy mysteries and liked the 2 previous Good Buy Girls- well, this one is just as good. If you haven't read them- I strongly suggest getting the first in the Good Buy Girls series.

I enjoyed this book as much as the others. I don't usually try to guess who the murderer is, but I figured it out pretty much right away in this one. This didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book at all. Just when I thought it was winding down BAM MAJOR ACTION SEQUENCES!!! I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say cats can be used as a weapon. I red the included chapter for the next book in the series, and I cannot wait for it to come out in a few months.

This is my favorite so far! I enjoyed the actual story line, as stalking is a very real issue in our world. I thought the friendship of the GBGS was told in a touching way without being overly gushy.By the end, I did figure out who was the murderer, however, I wouldn't put it down until I finished it. I look forward to the next one in the series, as I am excited to see what comes up next with Maggie & Sam.

This is 3rd in the series about Maggie and her friends the good buy girls. She runs a resale clothing store and is always looking for bargains. One of her friends is jealous of the new assistant her husband hires to help in his store. Later the assistant is found dead and her husand ihurt, while they know her friend didn't do it, they have to find out who did. This has interesting back stories about Maggie and her friends lives.

Thank you once again and Josie Belle. This was another winner. I really liked the scene where Sandy's husband came back from being stationed overseas and showed up at the ball. Keep the Kleenex nearby. You'll need it. Glad that Maggie and Sam are making headway in their relationship. September won't come soon enough for the next episode in this book set. I'm dying to know what "Marked Down for Murder" will bring (pun intended - Smiley Face!).

The third in the Good Buy Girls series, Maggie Gerber's sleuthing techniques continue to stand her in good stead. Maggie's daughter Laura plays a significant role, and the romance with police officer Sam Collins develops in a predictable manner. Not a strong, suspenseful read, but more of a warm fuzzy with characters that are quirky, quick with a pun and repartee, good friends and great shoppers.Rating: 2.5

The first in this series wasn't bad, but I found the 2nd one to be too over-the-top and had decided to forego further books in the series. I won a copy of this one here on GR and am glad I did, as I would have missed out on a VERY good read! Most of the childishness was missing from this one which was a welcome relief and Maggie has decided to do something about a relationship with Sam. Other than the killer being WAY too obvious, at least for me, this one was first rate! RECOMMEND!

This is such a fun series and I love the resale shop theme. I am looking forward to moving on in this series and the next adventure that the GBG's fall into. A new romance, a new baby, a new deal, a new body???? I'm anxious to see.
