Your Great Name Reviews
In this audiobook, the author of a popular Christian worship song narrates the book he wrote to elaborate on the lyrics. Taking phrases out of the song about the many things that God is to His people, Neale goes into detail about what each of those things mean. For example, the first line of the song is, "Lost are saved, find their way, at the sound of Your great name."The first chapter is entitled "Lost Are Saved," which corresponds to God's name Hosanna, meaning "Lord, save us." Eighteen chapters make their way through the phrases in the song, teaching us the Hebrew names of God that fit each phrase, and the literal meaning of each name. Using stories from his own life, from the Bible, or from modern people, the author illustrates how each of God's names, and hereby characteristics, can be seen in the real world. The chapters are only 5-8 minutes long, so each is just the right size to coincide with a daily devotion or as the beginning of an in-depth study on who God is. The narration is passionate and pleasant, and the book itself is a great reminder of what a powerful, loving God we serve.I would definitely recommend this for new Christians, as well as those who may be going through difficult times. I'd imagine this would be very encouraging for someone in the hospital, or excellent for drive-time listening on days when the pressures of life seem to scream more loudly than God's voice. An excellent book to accompany a powerful song.**I received this book free from christianaudio.com in exchange for an honest review.
A beautiful and well written book on the names of God.
This review first appeared on my blog, Jacob's Café (jacobscafe.blogspot.com).Names can be powerful things. Those of us how have children can all probably relate to how much we thought and debated about what word they would be labelled with the rest of their lives as central to their identity. Lucky for God, He wasn't limited by just one name. :)I've seen many short devotionals and works of art based on the many names of God. In his short book, Your Great Name: Discovering Power for Your Life in the Awesome Names of God, Michael Neale explores some of the names of God used throughout the Bible and based on his song, Your Great Name. For well-studied biblical scholars, there probably isn't much new information, but I don't think that's how this book is meant to be used. Texts like this remind me that worship and being in awe of God isn't necessarily just about getting information and understanding. Sometimes it's simpler, just hearing the names of our Lord and meditating on them. Frankly, being able to listen to a short audiobook, taking a break from having to be as critical of a thinker, actually helped me feel more connected to God.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher. Your Great Name: Audiobook ReviewBy Rose H. Narrator Thoughts - I have always perfered read-by-the-author books. It adds so much to the words if the author can put his or her own emphasis into the book. This author/narrator has a rich voice that made the audio pleasent to listen to. I enjoyed it very much. Book Thoughts - In each of these all too short chapters, Michael describes a name of God and how it applies to our lives. I found his collection of names encouraging and uplifting. As I thought on the names of God, I was drawn by the love and greatness of my God. He is great and mighty, loving and forgiving, merciful and compassionate. Complete with qoutes and thoughts from other authors and teachers, the names of God in Jewish, and personal stories from the author, makes this book a wonderful reference or short devotional. This book is one of the best I have read on the names of God. For this and more great audio, check out www.christianaudio.com
