Witty dialogue, fast paced plot and storyline, add in the very important steam factor and vivid wonderful main and secondary characters and you have yourself another winner from this great series.Just fabulous!

3.5 starsAnd so continues my love-hate relationship with this series! Birgit was one of the most selfish, calculating and manipulative heroines I have read about in a while. Nancy Gideon totally had her work cut out for her to endear me to her, and while we got to know why Birgit was the way she was and Birgit had changed by the end of the book, I can't say I loved her. Even at the end I thought Giles was a little too good for her.Anyway I like how Max and Cee Cee continue to feature in this series and their journey is most definitely NOT over. I'll be reading book 8 next.

Review originally posted at book surprised me in a couple of different ways. I’ve read this series since the beginning when the stories were just about Max and CeCe and their journey together. Since then it has branched out to all the different people who were secondary characters in the first several books and introduced a few more, while expanding on the world-building and adding new story arcs. Giles has been a character that has always been in the background and I didn’t really think too much about him. He was just there. When I found out that the next book was about him I can’t say that I was too excited. And to be completely honest, I couldn’t remember who the heroine was at all. It wasn’t until I started reading that I realized she was actually the sister of Silas, who was the hero from the first spin-off book, Hunter of Shadows. So I had mixed expectations when I started this read. From the very first chapter this book caught and held my attention. I started reading around 8 pm and finished up at about midnight. Giles turned out to be so different from the person I’m used to seeing him as. How have I never noticed what a hottie he is? This story picks up with Brigit MacCreedy crashing her brother’s wedding after fleeing from a couple of men who are trying to knock her off. Since her brother is leaving on his honeymoon with his pregnant wife, and since Brigit seems to always keep things to herself and not tell anyone the whole story, he asks that Brigit stay in Max’s mansion and that Giles keep an eye on her. Neither her brother, nor Giles has any idea what trouble is about to hit their doorstep.Brigit was not a heroine who I really liked. She is quite abrasive, cold-hearted and a little too snotty to for my tastes. It seemed to me that she was also a user, and when I say that I mean she will use her body to get a guy to do what she wants, she will use people against each other, etc…: a user. As the story progressed she and Giles keep rubbing each other the wrong way, you can almost feel the distrust that they have for each other. She does things, and keeps information to herself that put everyone in jeopardy. This happens more than once. Brigit was just not a likeable character to me. But…. as I got deeper into the story and found out her background I could believe that circumstances have made her that way. She is the way she is because that is what she had to do to get by.The relationship between these two people is cantankerous for awhile. There is a moment when her past catches up with her and puts two innocent people, who Giles cares a great deal about, in danger. To try and keep everyone safe he takes her to the backwoods of Louisiana where his own past is revealed. As much as I disliked Brigit at first, I completely enjoyed Giles. He joined Jimmy Legere’s illegal operation as an enforcer to get revenge on someone and has paid the price for that move since. He has his own demons to fight, and he and Brigit are more alike than they think. These two have to fight tooth and nail to finally have a happy ending. Betrayals, misunderstandings, and secrets, but they do get there. The different plot threads seem to be slowing weaving together throughout the last several books. Max is still shut away trying to regain his memories, Silas and Giles are running his empire in the meantime and trying to maintain the strength of the shifter pack, but something happens that makes me think we might see him come back in the next book. There was some resolution with Tina and Babineau, although I still think he is a complete asshole. All of the different storylines throughout the last seven books are coming together for a satisfying ending to the story arc. It was a little exciting to see everything start to merge so that I got a more complete picture of where this whole thing might be going. It seems that Nancy Gideon has woven a more in depth world than I realized. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed these two characters, especially when I started out not really liking one of them. I was surprised by how much I still enjoy this series, even when my two favorites Max and CeCe don’t really make an appearance. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I am anticipating the next book in this series, Prince of Shadows. I have no clue who it will be about, but I know I will be reading it as soon as it comes out.Favorite Quote:Brigit lay limp and gasping upon his chest, dazed by their fantastic coupling, then further stunned by his husky declaration.“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, nothing I wouldn’t accept, to have you, Brigit MacCreedy. Nothing.”She clung to those words, hoping, praying they were true.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:*eARC received from EdelweissIn the 7th installment of Nancy Gideon's MOONLIGHT series, we get a peek into the history of Giles St. Clair and Brigit MacCreedy... Giles was a human hired gun for the mob until Max took over and he started walking the line towards law and order again. Sort of. Giles is an incredibly honorable, loyal, and GOOD guy who doesn't try to pretend that he's not a little bit bad, but being one of the lone humans in a world full of powerful shifters requires one to be a little bit, well... different. So, when Brigit MacCreedy, sister to Giles's co-2nd-in-command comes into town trailing nothing but trouble behind her, Giles takes responsibility for her and ends up in the middle of something much bigger and learns quite a few things about his charge (and himself) along the way.I really liked Giles as a hero! He's exactly what I look for in my alpha males (even when they are human) - sexy, confident, strong, a bit cocky, different, and slightly damaged.Brigit grows on you as a heroine. I honestly wasn't sure if she would... She has a lot of baggage herself and comes across incredibly selfish, spoiled, and slightly irritating at first. Once she starts opening up and helping Giles and those in his inner circle, however, she shows that she's incredibly strong despite her insecurities, and it becomes apparent that a lot of her bluster is just for show to shield her from being hurt. The two of them together as a leading couple are frustrating, heartbreaking, sexy as sin, and ultimately perfect. In Giles and Brigit's action packed quest to make the world safe again for themselves and those they love, lots of secrets are revealed, unlikely alliances are forged, some new friends and relationships are discovered and solidified and things majorly change in the whole outfit of the clans. I don't do spoilers, so you're just going to have to read Betrayed by Shadows and find out everything for yourselves. I will say however, that I absolutely LOVE the St. Clair dysfunctional family. ;-) LITERAL ADDICTION gives Betrayed by Shadows 4 1/2 Skulls and most definitely recommends it to all fans of Nancy's MOONLIGHT series as well as Paranormal Romance, Romantic Suspense, and Shifter fans. Betrayed by Shadows stands alone just fine as a novel, but you do miss the history of the supporting characters by not reading the first 6 books. I would suggest just settling in with book 1 and enjoying the ride!

Just loved reading about Brigit & Giles; in other books she is not likable at all and he is in the shadows until book 6! With Giles, learning his history is an eye opener and while we had some of the background on Brigit she was somewhat vague also. Seeing both of their lives turn upside down when they really find each other is a great adventure! Like the other books in the series, there is intrigue, violence, sex and love! I think what draws me is the deep love they have not only for their mates, but for their family's as well! This is book 7, and I have not been disappointed in any of the books in this series!! Will start reading #8 as soon as I post this!!!

Brought to you by OBS reviewer SammyThis is the first book I have read by Nancy Gideon and it is the 7th in this series. I love shifter stories and enjoyed this one as well. Nancy has some rather harsh characters and super soft ones, there didn’t seem to be an in between. I love Bree and her self confidence in herself and what her worth was, she made no apologies for using her sexuality. Very refreshing! I would suggest to read the other books in the series to have a better understanding of the politics and some of the individuals that became a part of the family. While I really enjoyed this book, I had some problems with it. Basically the hero is a killer, a nice one but never the less a stone cold killer. Oh, I should say human killer. This story glorified a hit man. That is my issue with the story. Yes, I know it’s hip to watch things like Mob Wives now and I think it used to be The Sopranos, since when is being the muscle and killing who you are told are romantic. I felt like all the self discriminations by Giles to himself were well deserved, he had a future and chose to become a killer and then his step-father was involved with killing his father and his mother married him and also, knew what had happened all the while having a holier than thou attitude toward her son…..and then all is forgiven. Not in this lifetime! These are the humans in the story, nut jobs and people I don’t connect with.My favorite character was Bree loved how sassy she was. I didn’t understand WHY everyone continually said she was so awful so much of what she did was for others in her family. Like I said earlier, I think some of the story would be more understandable if I had read the other stories, I didn’t understand the shifter community and who was who and how all that flowed into the story. So you can read this story by itself, but know that you won’t get as much out of it. . Yes, I know it’s a fantasy story, however, the author spends a lot of time letting us see why the main characters got to be how they were, in a HUMAN world and with that I felt it should have had more reality in that part of the story. I don’t care how hot a guy is if he killed willingly and wantonly because his (mob) boss told him to I wouldn’t want him for a man in my life. I recommend this for adults mostly because of the bad behavior and no consequences for the humans in the story who killed willingly for someone else.

I had the opportunity to read Masked by Moonlight, the first book in this series, back in 2010, and really enjoyed it. It was a series that I knew that I wanted to read more of - but of course, hundreds of other books got in the way. When I was given the opportunity to read this one for review, I jumped on it! I missed out on a lot in the five books that came in between - but this book does read well as a standalone. I really liked Brigit - she was all tough as nails on the outside, but once you got within the walls that she built up, she was really just lonely and looking for someplace to call home. Giles was sort of the same way. He had given up his family and home for revenge and just saw a lonely life stretching before him. He had sold his soul to Jimmy Legere to exact revenge for his father's death, but since Jimmy died and Max Savoie has taken over the business, his dark side has started to retreat. He has mixed feelings toward Brigit though. You see, Giles is human and Brigit is "one of them". Giles has always been big on compartmentalizing everything, but he is having a hard time trying to figure out where Bree should fit. Trouble seems to follow her, regardless of her intentions, and before you know it, it has found her in New Orleans. Giles packs her up and takes her down to the backwoods where he is from to try to keep her safe. They let their guard down and actually start to get close, but will the trouble that pursues her be too much for a fledgling romance? This is a very fast moving book and you barely get a breather between crises. There is a lot of family loyalty, whether related by blood or friendship, where people will put everything they have on the line to save another. Warning - there are sex scenes in the book, but they are not vulgar. They are gentle, sensual, and leave you breathless. I will be doing my best to find some time to go back and fit in those books that I missed, as this is one author that I really enjoy reading.

Nancy Gideon’s Betrayed by Shadows was a consuming read, fascinating! I’ll admit, I’m not sure why I even picked this one, because normally shape shifters are not my thing. In fact, I’m pretty sure I can safely say that I’ve never read a shape shifter book before. But I’m telling you, I’m signed up for all of Nancy Gideon’s series. Shape shifter sex aside, (and that was phenomenal, by the way), when you’re dealing with such lethal creatures, the stakes are always high, and you, as the reader, actively worry about the characters involved. This book was like The Godfather meets Alien. There is warfare between shape shifter clans across the U.S.— from Tahoe, to Memphis, to New Orleans, and in between. There are so many characters, with ties from previous books in the series, each uniquely interesting, each with fascinating motivations. And even the locales are fabulous, the backwoods swamps, to the mobster mansion, to the seedy side of New Orleans and a shape shifter bar. It was great to see this myriad of characters interact with each other, whether it be the main characters, or any of the side characters. There are twists I never saw coming laced throughout, and, even though I didn't predict them, they still made complete sense. The hero and heroine were so Sam and Diane (Cheers), always misreading each other, coming together, and splitting apart. Their dilemma was so real I had tears running down my face as I flipped pages, heartbroken for them! The dialogue was great, I mean, I could go on and on about this book, but I’ll save you the time and tell you that you just have to read it, even if it doesn't seem to appeal to you.Best I've read in a while! Can’t wait for the next (the first chapter was at the end of this one!)

Since I typically start things off this way, let's just go ahead and incorporate this in reviews from now on.Preamble - I could kick myself for now reading this series sooner. I've always had them on my ever-growing TBR list, but I just don't have the time to read like I used to. And I would occasionally look at the covers and drool. Yep, who feels like a jackass now.Thankfully, I've read the blurbs and kept up with that was going on in the other books, so I wasn't lost coming in this late in the series. From page one, it was easy enough for me to dive right into. After finishing Betrayed by Shadows, I clearly need to go back and read the whole series. Not because I was lost, far from it, but because the book was so good. I wanted to read about the other characters and know everything about them.I loved our hero, Giles St. Clair. I wasn't too sure about Brigit in the start, but it didn't take me long to understand her a bit better as the story progressed. Once you gain insight as to why she acts the way she does, it's easier to sympathize with her character. Personally, I loved these two characters together. Giles is just the type of man Brigit needs in her life. Now, if I just had my own Giles, everything would be A-Okay.All in all, I really enjoyed the writing style, storyline, and characters. I'm looking forward to going back to read the rest of the series, and then I'll anticipate the next book in the series, Prince of Shadows. Betrayed by Shadows tells the story of Giles St. Clair, Max' Second and Brigit MacCreedy, Silas' sister. Brigit comes to town seeking Silas' help only to find he's just gotten married and is heading out of town on his honeymoon. Giles agrees to look after her while he's gone. Giles is human, but he's spent a great deal of time around shifters and fits in well. "I know a thing or two about your kind. You can growl, scratch and bite, but for the most part, you can't change into anything more dangerous than the average female." Brigit is stuck up and uses her looks to get whatever she wants. She's a bit befuddled by Giles, who doesn't fawn over her.Giles St. Clair was a human and a hindrance, an interference to overcome. While these two were ultimately a good pairing, I did not care for Brigit when I first met her and I still don't. I did however enjoy learning more about Giles and his family. I know that books 5+ are centering around characters other than Max and CeCe, but I had hoped that after the major event with Max in Seeker of Shadows that more of the book would be spent exploring and solving his situation. I thoroughly enjoy this series and look forward to more books to come. [Rating: 3.5★]

Rating: 4 out of 5Betrayed by Shadows by Nancy GideonThis story revolves around Giles St. Clair, a human mobster turned good, and Bridgit MacCreedy, a Shifter whose actions have brought on a lot of trouble. Running from two clans, Bridgit MacCreedy stumbles unannounced to her brother’s wedding needing protection. Silas who was about to go on a honeymoon with his pregnant wife transferred that protection to Giles, a trusted friend of Max Savoie, the Shifter head of the New Orleans clan. When I first started this book, I thought this was my first novel by Nancy Gideon, but I soon realised I know of Alain’s and Tina’s story. I knew a bit of Cassie’s story with Max. But all the while I was trying to sort out what was happening for the first part of the book. I think this book would be best read as a series, but it didn’t give me too much trouble after the first bit. I would recommend this paranormal romance to all paranormal romance readers. Both, the heroine and hero, are flawed in their own ways. Bridget might come out as selfish and bitchy, but I loved how imperfect she was and she changes. As a reader, you watch her grow more mature. Giles, is not perfect either, damaged by his father’s death and his consequent revenge, he is shunned by his mother. Sometimes, he comes off as a jerk, but he manages to redeem himself.ARC courtesy of Edelweiss and Simon and Shuster.

I was worried at the start of this book that I wasn't going to like it as much as the rest of the series. The main character Brigit is just not the lovable type. After all it was her boyfriend who tried to kill Max. Luckily that guy was not all that smart and Max got away with just a few minor injuries. But have faith fellow readers because Nancy Gideon has outdone herself on this one. It takes an excellent writer to take a semi villain, or at least a major annoyance, and turn them into a character you truly care about.Of course I should mention that Giles is lovable from the start. Loyal to a fault he is the kind of man everyone needs in their corner. He is even to look past all of his coworkers more interesting traits, seeing as they are all shifters. For those of you really concerened with how Max is doing I will tell you we get a peak or two into that. I'd love to read more about my favorite shifter in upcoming books. Overall this was a fantastic novel. The kind I stayed up far too late on a work night because I just couldn't put it down. Its easy to see why Nancy Gideon has made it into my list of favorite authors!

BETRAYED BY SHADOWS by Nancy Gideon is an interesting paranormal romance. Book 7 in the "By Moonlight" series. It is a steamy story set in New Orleans. A compelling, steamy story of love, romance, passion, danger, intrigue, shapeshifters, and hidden, dark secrets. This is my first by this author but it will not be my last. Another winner for Nancy Gideon. The shape shifter world keeps getting more and more complicated. Not content to stay in New Orleans, Gideon takes the reader to Tahoe and Memphis (and Chicago in the previous book). Who knew shape shifters were so wide spread? With Betrayed by Shadows, the reader meets a human thug with a conscience and a bad ass shifter female. I liked Giles right from the beginning. Brigit was another story--until she lets you see beneath the surface. The characters are well drawn and you keep hoping they will let down their guards to each other. Learning to trust comes hard for both. When they realize they're stronger together than separately, I sighed in relief. Although the book has a satisfying ending, there are enough questions that I can't wait for the next book. May can't come soon enough.

I wasn't sure that I would enjoy this book because her attitude wasn't the best from the last book, but i really enjoyed this one. she was more vulnerable in this book. You got to see her struggles especially with the decisions she was trying to make. I haven't really been a Giles fan, because he's really didn't have a major role within any of the books. His back story to how he became a hit man for Jimmy was kind of week, but I still liked him. . I didn’t understand WHY everyone continually blamed Bree for alot of what was going on. Some of the situations weren't her fault and I think her brother left her and Kendra out to dry from the previous book. If he had helped maybe he wouldn't be cleaning up after her. I can't wait for Max to get his memory back.

With lots of romance, intrigue, danger and gut wrenching scenes with Max, OMG MAX!!!, this book is awesome. There were scenes where I was jumping up and down with anticipation, I had tears, I laughed, I yelled, etc. I went from hating Brigit to loving her. Oh and Giles?! If you have read any book in this series, you know how lovable Giles is. The last page was the hardest, I did not want it to be over!

I liked it more interested in Max and Cee Cee. But I admire Giles's attitude he got his women. It was sad about his family life what happened after his father's death. But in the end a happy ending for most everyone. I would have killed my step father after all he did have a hand in killing Giles's father but forgiveness is a good thing.
