3 ½-4 stars – Contemporary/Sports Erotic Romance NovellaThis is the fourth book that I’ve read and enjoyed by this author. They’re all a bit different and Below the Belt is an original contemporary sports erotic romance about a competitive Taekwondo martial artist. It’s an entertaining novella that’s great for a smokin’ hot sports romance fix!Copy provided by author.

Short and sweet. Would have loved for this to be a fuller length novel. Nevertheless, it was an entertaining read. Sexy, hot and fun!

Fan-freaking-tastic! What an amazing, romantic and hot novella from Skye Warren. I really liked her (extremely) short-story 'Beauty Touched the Beast', but I absolutely loved 'Below the Belt'! She managed to turn a rather clichéd story into a fresh, emotionally charged, sweet and sexy sports romance. I've never really payed much attention to martial arts before, but, yowza, if all the guys are like the scrumptious Abe, then, clearly, I've been missing out! He was a real guy's guy, but also displayed moments of genuine sensitivity - a true gamma hero! - and I liked how he continued to pursue a justifiably angry Paris after f---ing up their initial "encounter". If 'Beauty Touched the Beast' was a yummy amuse-bouche, then 'Below the Belt' is a delicious appetizer... now I'm totally ready for a satisying entrée that I know Warren can potentially deliver - I'd love to get Addie and Rafael's story!

3 WTF Stars[image error]Firstly let me just say I really enjoyed this book.Secondly, yes I'm gonna say it, it was way too short!Thirdly I'm probably gonna spoil this for anyone who wanted to read it.Lastly, I can't believe I'm writing a review for such a short story!Skye Warren is a wonderful writer the fact that she can pull me in and have me riveted is amazing, the fact that she did that with a short story is even better.I only have two problems with this story, one it being too short ( I already mentioned that), and second being the sex scene at the end. Paris decided she was schizo and went all dominatrix on Abe!!! What the hell??? And Abe went all sub on her!!! Dammit!!! It ruined the entire story for me!!! It felt like she was trying to make Abe pay for the way her ex had treated her! I'd like to add that I do like reading erotica with bdsm, I just prefer being eased into it, although this wasn't really bdsm it was more like dominance and control (I'm not making any sense)Finally the ending was just too much, it was obviously a cliffhanger, that I don't mind. But seeing as the book was published in 2011 is there any chance of the story being continued??? I seriously hope so but I doubt it! That's just my opinion please prove me wrong!

2019-05-19 08:38 review is based on my novella criteriaBelow the Belt by Skye WarrenI read my first Skye Warren novella a few weeks ago, and got a glimpse into the darker side of her mind in Trust In Me. Now I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the softer side of Skye Warren in Below The Belt. The things that have held true on both sides is her ability to convey believable human emotion. I really enjoy her writing style, and in Below the Belt I got to see a little of her humor that came through in her characters. I also enjoyed the setting of the story. My brother is a 3rd degree black belt in taekwondo, and I’m familiar with the ceremonies, and competitions, so this came across realistic to me. Abe Montgomery is a martial arts black belt competing at nationals in Seattle. A night out and bantering with the guys spurs a wager for Abe Montgomery that involves getting into some girls’ panties. Well Mr. Montgomery didn’t have to look very far. Just beyond the table of groupies to the beautiful girl sitting alone in the shadows. Paris Rivera seems to be a bit of a challenge at first, but she quickly concedes to the charming Abe Montgomery. I can’t say that I blame her, I would have been throwing my panties at him too. It takes no time for Abe to determine that Paris is the kind of young lady he would like to actually get to know, but Paris isn’t so sure that’s such a good idea.Abe is striving for a gold medal, the ticket to making his dreams come true. While Paris is striving to get as far away from the martial arts world as possible. Along the way, Abe realizes that the gold medal he has been working so hard toward may not be the only ticket to his happiness. And Paris realizes that second chances are deserved, even for her.I enjoyed the H/h in this little story. Abe is, sweet, charming, compassionate, and oh so sexy!! (Purrr) Paris is so cute, and caring, and sassy, I enjoyed her a lot as well. The possibilities have been left open for a sequel to this story, so I hope there will be.

This book was reviewed for my blog. Read full review here: http://theromancewritersreads.blogspo...What I liked about this book: This book was a short read, a novella, and it moved along at a good pace. The characters were likeable and pretty straightforward. I liked that I was introduced to the world of martial arts, something I have never read about before. I really liked Abe's character the best. He's the kind of guy who comes from the gutter and is out to prove something. His drive, his determination, and his oral pleasure skills (we'll get to that later) made him extremely likeable as a hero. What I didn't like about this book: Paris is reluctant to get into a relationship with Abe for several reasons, many of which are pretty solid. One of her reason's, however, felt a bit silly to me. A black belt, Paris has decided to leave behind the world of Taekwondo forever and because Abe is so heavily involved in the sport, she feels she can't take things to the next level with him. This was not a big deal for me, just one of those small things that irked me just a bit. I felt her others reasons were just as good, but her main sticking point, wanting to leave the world of Taekwondo, felt a bit lame. This was such a small part of the book, though, and didn't hinder my enjoyment of it at all. I just found myself rolling my eyes a bit as Paris uses this lame excuse to keep Abe at a distance. Fortunately, in the true style of a romantic hero, Abe wears her down and gives her lots and lots of reasons to change her mind. The sexual scenes between Abe and Paris are hot that my eyes got wide a few times while reading this. Man that Abe sure knows how to use his tongue (fans self)! The scenes were intense and raw; the author doesn't hold back when it comes to languge or description. Some of my favorite scenes, though, do not actually involve sex. There are several times when we get to dive into Abe's thoughts and read just what he wishes he could do to Paris...those moments were just as hot as the sex scenes themselves!

This had some potential, if it were longer. I didn't understand the characters or their motivations. The hero's name is Abe. That sucks.I thought the reason Paris left martial arts was very weak and didn't make sense.A character suddenly announces he is gay and in love with Abe--out of not where. Abe is like 'hey we're cool man', and that was that.Insta-love. I dont mind this if the couple is thrown together under a stressful situation, and depend on each other for suvival or something. But this was just a hot weekend at the Kumate. (Fans of VanDamme and Bloodsport will understand this reference)I believe this is incorrectly labeled as erotica. There are a couple of sex scenes, but its mostly vanilla. The first is semi-public sex.

Abe Montgomery had one goal at the moment. Win the gold medal at the The World Martial Arts tournament and open his own Taekwondo school. He was totally focused until his cocky pride let his friends push him onto the “Bet”. You know the “Bet”, right, where men wager who can score the fastest. Paris had one goal. Get through this tournament with her mother and younger sister, then get as far away from martial arts as humanly possible. So what was she doing wandering off with the sport’s golden boy?I will be totally honest, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. I figured I would give it a quick read and at best read a few hot sex scenes. Well I did read some really HOT sex scenes, but I totally got into the characters and their story. Surprise!! How chagrined was I? I should have judged this book by the cover. (Isn't it smoking?) Skye Warren did an absolutely magnificent job in developing her characters and in pulling the readers into the drama taking place in their lives. And Paris, what an absolutely dynamite heroine. When she finds out about the "Bet" does she slink away, cry or cling. Um..... no. She gathers her tattered dignity and gives a very dignified exit. Then he gets to chase her and do a little groveling. You know I just luuuurve a good groveling. I got a lot more than I expected in this well written gem of a book. The story itself revolves around the sport of competitive martial arts and had a very adult Karate Kid feel ( I kept waiting for somebody to yell "Sweep the leg!") and while not an avid enthusiast of martial arts, it was presented in such a knowledgeable entertaining way that ended up learning a few things. If you're looking for something enjoyable, unique and very hot, you can't go wrong with Below the Belt. Big kudos on a job well done Ms. Warren.

Abe is a completely focused, alpha, intent on winning that championship so he can obtain his dream of opening his own school. He was his masters prize student and dedicated his life to his art. At an extremely boring opening ceremony, Abe finds his eyes wondering the crowd to the same old throng of partygoers and brainless blondes. He would much rather be practicing for the competition or in his room sleeping then here. His buddies try to liven up the party by forcing Abe to make a bet. Intent on seeing the wager through, he scans the crowd for a challenge. His eyes land on Paris and what happens next blows him away.Paris so wished she could be anywhere but here. She had long ago given up this lifestyle and wanted as far away from it as possible. But her sister counted on her for support and to keep their mother from totally driving her nuts. That in itself was a full time job. Her mother had been completely disappointed in her when she had decided to drop out of her martial art. So here she was, being a good daughter/sister when Abe approaches her table. At first she is shocked because she knows who he is and couldn't help but wonder why he approached her. Then her hormones start doing a happy dance and all logic fails. This was a cute short story about love/lust at first site. I would definitely say it starts with lust and ends up in love :) Both characters have their own issues and work through resolving them in this book. Paris has a little more than Abe. Together you get some hot sex scenes and a little sweet romance. I enjoyed this book and can't wait for more form this author!!

I came across this little novella looking for a little diversion after I finished up a really heavy series. And it gave me just what I was looking for: an easy and fast read, light on the angst and fun in the bedroom. The story takes place at a martial arts competition where Abe is a contestant. He meets Paris after a group of his buddies bet him he can't get laid at the reception they are attending. Of course, Abe manages to win the bet in no time flat.Paris is attending the event with her little sister, who is also a competitor. She is drawn to Abe from the moment they meet and despite her concerns about being too easy (duh!)... she can't seem to stay away from him. The "relationship" happens at lightening speed and Abe's alpha protective thing is laughable after knowing Paris only a day or two. The romance isn't exactly grounded in reality, but the sex is fun and plentiful. 3 stars.Review copy provided by author

Short and not me! The story. Abe is a Martial Arts guy/fighter/kicker person. He has great respect for his teacher, his friends and the sport. But women...not so much. Until he meets Paris. He realizes he wants more than just a quick...well a quickie. Paris has given up her ambitions to please her mom and made her life about her sister, a martial arts kicker girl. When she meets Abe thing heat up. Really fast. Short story remember. Ms Warren does not waste time getting to the Good Stuff. They have some intense scenes but can it work out or it is just a Kicker Convention Quickie? Loved Abe's kicker friends. Can't wait to see where that goes. Especially Blake. Yeah bring that on!

Below the Belt was a very enjoyable read from Skye Warren. She takes the reader inside the world of martial arts where it's both exciting and dangerous. The characters, Abe & Paris, were captivating and I loved them together. The secondary characters were also a nice addition to the story. The author also threw in a dash of humor into this story which I enjoyed. The sex was hot, the dialogue was natural, and the story flowed smoothly. There was never a dull moment in this book. Now I'm curious about Addie & Raphael. I would love to read their story! In all, Below the Belt was a fun & sexy escape into the world of martial arts. I enjoyed the story & characters very much & would definitely look more into this author's work.

I picked up this book after reading a review posted by Rhonda from Sam's Awesomeness. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author is new to me. I love sports romance and this is a good one. The story started off without you having to wait a long time to meet the h/h.This was a cute story of a embarrassing "one night stand" that ends up in love.

Coming from a family of Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do (husband and oldest daugther 2nd degree, other daugther and son 1st degree) I totally fell in love with this story! Abe and Paris have wonderful chemistry. While this story is short, it really packs a punch.

My review contains spoilers and they're mostly my thoughts as I went with the book...Below The Belt was a fun and uber hot novella by SW, very unlike her Dark Erotica series. I really liked the premise and the interactions between Abe, the National star of Taekwando and Paris, an ex-Taekwando martial artist.I don’t really know much about Taekwando, unless what I randomly read online or may have seen a bit here and there on the TV. But this book gives you good visuals of the fighting, as it came out in SW’s superb writing. I do love her writing style and how she develops the connections between her characters. Abe is the national star and winning his way through the Taekwando matches. He doesn’t have a big background, we aren’t told much but it’s apparent that Taekwando has altered his life path. He has name, fame, money and yes, women all over it. Now, his only dream is to achieve this current championship that will earn him enough sponsor money to open a school of his own. Abe arrived to compete and in the hotel where the parties to celebrate the championship was going on, is where he meets Paris. It was not a good intro in my estimation, since some of Abe’s douchy friends (also Taekwando counterparts) were annoying him to ‘score’ on some starf*ckers hanging and giggling nearby. But Abe was veered away by Paris, who was sitting alone in a corner, all by herself. He felt something different about her and didn’t want to ‘score’ with her, not the way he and buddies usually do. But, in the span of 15 minutes of their introduction, they were going at it...So much for not wanting to score like that! lolErm... moving on!Paris, who was also into Taekwando once upon a time, came here to support her younger sister, Addison or Addie, along with her mom. It’s apparent that the mother and daughter aren’t in very good terms, mostly because Paris’s mother is disappointed in her for giving up her lucrative career because Paris had the talent to do something with her skills. It was told that there are ‘some reasons’ behind this disinterest in Martial arts of any sorts and yes, men. But, somehow, she couldn’t deny Abe’s sexiness and gives into it. Overall, I wasn’t dissatisfied since the sex was HOT all over the book, something I really appreciated. As it was a novella, the whole story takes place in a couple of days of the championship. There were little conflicts between Abe and Paris, along with some tender moments and sexy times. I thought those were done very well. Now to some things that put me off somewhat. I thought Abe and his Taekwando buddies were pretty immature at times. More than once, I rolled my eyes with their temper tantrums, views on life and discussion on women which weren’t very inspiring. Kinda dampened my liking for them. Abe wasn’t interested in a serious relationship with Paris at first. So wasn’t Paris, even though she wanted Abe in her life. She was the one who balked later when Abe was finally thinking something serious. I get that the few days of their acquaintance aren’t really viable for anything serious but I’m not the one for sex-for-fun-and-let’s-see-where-it-leads-to kind of relationship. It’s already ‘too there’ in real life for me to care about it in a book. Even though I felt that Abe and Paris have something very special between them, the book ended on a HFN note. I wanted something much more solid. Then, the bomb Abe’s longtime friend Blake dropped at the end kinda threw me upside down. Though it was sure that if there’s to be another follow up of this novella, that might be between Addie and another of Abe’s douchy Taekwando buddy, Raphael (didn’t really care for him that much), I was more interested in Blake. But that announcement took the possibility away. Finally, Paris’s ‘big reveal’ wasn’t that big of a thing, not to me at least. The good news is if there is another follow up, I’ll definitely check that out. I totally recommend this novella if you have a few hours to spare and want something very sexy, with the Taekwando moves to go with it... among other things that is.I tell you that you won’t be disappointed. 3.75 stars.

Review can be found on blog too: Book Lovin' MamasThere's something about a Man who can kick some ass with his bare hands and feet...that turns a woman on. least this woman. I've been fascinated with Martial Arts since I was a little girl, unfortunately I only took a month of it in middle school. My Parents didn't want to deal out the money for an expensive Martial Arts Academy. =( I enjoyed looking at the eye candy on the Cover...that definitely will have me reading the book. I think it's the tattoo that captured my attention more though on the cover...or could it be the nice rugged abs in the front...*sigh*Finally, I got to live it again through a Short Erotic Novella written by Skye Warren. Oh Yes! Thank you, Thank you!! =)What I loved about this Erotica Book...was the development of the characters, the sex scenes and the drama the characters went through to be with each other. Did I mention some steamy, hot, sexy sex Scenes?Abe is focused on gold..well..he's supposed to be until a bet he makes and then he meets Paris, who throws him off. He's never met a woman like her before. Of course, Paris is not into being in a relationship due to her past relationship. She especially doesn't want to hook up with a guy who is into Martial Arts.Abe loses focus of course and Paris...well...she ends up hooking up with Abe..the one kind of person she didn't want to be with. Poor Abe, went through hell to try to win Paris's attention. I did get a little upset when Paris revealed why she didn't want a serious relationship with Abe. Not really a good excuse in my eyes. If she didn't want Abe...turn him over to me. =) I loved the ending and wasn't expecting that at all. Abe was definitely clueless when it came to Blake. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a good Erotica book to read. I also recommend it to anyone who wants a strong male character to read.I definitely plan on reading Skye Warren's other books.

My Review:I was contacted by the author to review this book and I really didn't know what to expect. As an erotica, you just never know how good the book is going to be. I am happy to admit that I was really pleasantly surprised. This book was good! There was a lot more depth to the book than I expected with several really interesting side-stories to go along with the great romantic main story line. The main story is between Abe & Paris. They are both at a National martial arts competition. Abe is there as a competitor favored to win gold and Paris is there as part of the support team for her younger sister. Paris used to compete, but now she doesn't (the why of that doesn't come out until the very end of the book and I was completely surprised by the reasons.) I really liked Abe & Paris. They have an instant chemistry, but several obstacles keep cropping up to keep them apart. What I liked about them though was the genuine caring and consideration between them. This is an don't often find sweet innocent moments in those, but this one had several. I liked that...a lot!Like I said, there were also several side stories. One that just broke my, of the guys that Abe grew up with. Throughout the book, he has this huge chip on his shoulder and when the reasons as to why come out...OMG! Skye, you are writing a book for him, right??? *Please say yes.*Overall this was a fabulous book. It was interesting to enter the world of martial arts (which I know NOTHING about.) The book is short, but it read like a much longer book. And it was HOT! I enjoyed it!

Three friends at a national Martial Arts competition make a bet. Who can pick up a girl and have sex first. Pride is on the line. Abe, Raphael and Blake have made this bet before. Abe, the gold medal winner, usually wins the bet. This time, he's not really in the mood to play. Until he spots Paris across the room. She's quiet, beautiful and so different from the other women who follow the sport. He had to meet her. What follows is a story of love, friendship and growing pains. This book is sweet and spicy! Romance written in a realistic way. No fairy tale endings. No promises that can't be kept. Just straight up emotion and honesty. You'll love this well paced tale of Martial Arts and love. I enjoyed every second of it. Laughing out loud at many points in the book and envying other parts of the book. *grin* You'll read this one quickly and be craving more. Skye Warren did a beautiful job on this one.I couldn't find anything wrong with this book. It met all the criteria for a great book. It seemed a little short, but then I wanted it to go on and on, it was that good.

It all started with a bet... Classic Guy bet... who would get some that night and what the punishment would be for losing... Abe Montgomery is the "hero" in this story didn't want to take the bet and instead of taking the easy route with the groupies he singles out Paris Rivera... As in Paris, Texas (my favorite line) who has sworn off guys and martial arts... She is there to help her sister. Paris a tough cookie who decided to take a chance on Abe agrees to go off with him...she has sex with him in a closed off ball room when they are interrupted by Abe's "friends" where she finds out about the bet and runs off. Abe turns out to be not as big an ass as Paris thinks and they hit it off as "friends. I really don't want to ruin the story as it is a quick read... So My final thoughts...This is a great short which reads so well and has that happy ending we all like with bits of steamy sex, great backstory, and interesting charaters, great ending which has you wanting more... Looking forward to reading more from Skye Warren.

This is my first book by Skye Warren. I really enjoyed this book. Love the three guys Abe, Blake and Rafael. Abe is in the competition to win the gold and start his own gym. Paris is at the competition to support her sister. She wasn't looking to find a man. Once Abe and Paris meet, the sparks fly. They have an instant chemistry that I really enjoy. The emotions each character showed and each battle they struggled through was described so well you could really imagine it happening right before your eyes. I felt so connected to the Abe and Paris. They were both truly so great, and belonged to each other but they kept screwing it up. I truly enjoyed the side stories of Blake (WOW, did not see that coming) and can't wait to see if there is another story for Abbie (Paris' younger sister) and Rafael. I didn't want the story to end. The author told me she has more darker erotica and I want to try one of those. I think I'll read Trust in Me (Dark Erotica).

BELOW THE BELT is too short and I mean that in a good way. This enjoyable novella could easily be made into a full length book! The story is very well written, the characters are interesting and likable and the plot, set at a martial arts tournament, was a welcome new idea. The attraction between Abe and Paris sizzles from the beginning and that attraction is evident in moments of caring and tenderness that go beyond the very hot sex. Is that another story brewing between Paris' sister, Abby and Abe's friend, Rafael? And what about that zinger from Blake? Nice, quick read. very steamy scenes. Love when a women takes charge in a book. Would've liked to see how the story progressed but I enjoyed what was written for what it was; a short story. based around the former martial art athlete Paris and the gold winning taekwondo star Abe. This book follows a love affair during a traveling match were both are drawn to eachother during a press conference in their two week stay. the soon find a bond; mostly revolving around their sex life. in which they realize they want to create a life together, because being without the other was no longer a possibility.

A very good read that was waaaaaaay too short--meant in the best possible sense, however. Good story line, crisp and well-defined characters and a lot of personal and sexual tension. Martial arts is, of course, very physical and requires focus and the kind of intensity that only the best of the best can sustain. Abe is one of those and even though he is well on his way for the championship, his attraction and almost unbelievable magnetic draw to Paris is enough to upset his plans. This is a story filled with page after page of good reading and one that I am delighted to have read.

This is a short novella that had a lot more promise than it lived up to. I liked the story line (hot mixed martial hottie falls in lust) and enjoyed the writing but the characters and story could have been developed so much more. I also felt like the ending was very rushed. I understand that novellas are limited in scope because of the smaller size but this book would have benefited from several more pages. For a free read it wasn’t bad but it could have been a lot more. I have enjoyed other books by this writer and would read her again. I can only give this a rating of 2.75.

Way too short of a story, but it grabs you and takes you for a quick thrill ride. The ending baffles me on so many levels all that controlling being done by Paris and Abe being so submissive, where did that come from? Then literally leaves you hanging with her younger sister who is only seventeen with Rafael who is twenty and whereabouts unknown? Then no follow up story? What gives? Seriously could have made some spin off stories of this.
